To date, Tom Goreau ’70 has constructed 700 Biorocks—underwater artificial reefs that stand where coral reefs once did. Through a system involving electrification, steel rebar, and coral grafts, the Biorocks develop a limestone crust and become a new home to marine ecosystems. He sees it as a means of “regenerating the ecosystem and working with people who are trying to save the last bit of what they have.” More at the link in the bio.
