In the last 40 years, the FDA has approved only three new anti-TB drugs. Pretomanid, an antibiotic developed by Nader Fotouhi PhD ’88 and a team at TB Alliance, was approved as part of a three-drug TB regimen this past August. It’s the first antibiotic to be developed by a nonprofit and could be part of the basis for shorter, more effective treatments for patients suffering from this infectious disease.
