Kingsley Onwuka signs for 2021 NISA season⠀
⠀
Yet (and stop us if you've heard this before) Maryland product added to our first professional roster. Born in Nigeria, he moved to the States at 11 and played most of his soccer in the Baltimore area. He played at Kenwood High School (@bluebirdathletics) where he won several awards and Captained the team his Junior and Senior year, later being inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2019.⠀
⠀
After high school he attended CCBC Essex (@ccbcessexsports) and helped the team reach Nationals in both of his years there, tallying 21 goals and 5 assists in 28 appearances. He then transferred to UMBC (@umbcathletics/@umbcmenssoccer) where he played 2 seasons at and was a member of the team that won the American East Conference Championship in 2010 and made it to the NCAA 2nd Round.⠀
⠀
Onwuka has extensive experience post-college, playing for the Northern Virginia Royals in the PDL, Baltimore Bays U23, and the Baltimore Bohemians (@baltimorebohs) in PDL where he made 20 appearances and scored 15 goals and had 5 assists. He has played professional indoor soccer as well, playing for the Pennsylvania Roar and the Harrisburg Heat (@harrisburg_heat_soccer). His last stop prior to joining the club was with the Evergreen Diplomats, a professional team that played in the American Soccer League (ASL) where he kept up his scoring ways.⠀
⠀
Beyond playing, Onwuka has been ever-present in helping to coach the next generation of Maryland talent, currently the Head Coach at his alma mater Kenwood High School as well as coaching the Maryland Bobcats U18 team.⠀
⠀
An experienced and versatile player, he's been with the club for a long time, seen the ups and downs, and is a big reason the club has been able to grow and expand the way it has.⠀
⠀
Please join us in welcoming Kingsley to the club!⠀
