NEWS! After being confronted with some very challenging health issues over the last 18 months, I have had to undertake some rather difficult career & medical decisions that I thought I would never have to make. After months of testing and an overwhelming number of doctors, I have been able to gain more clarification on my health decline, and I have decided to take the next 6-12 months off to let my body recuperate.
As most of you already know, I like to spend a lot of my downtime in the outdoors doing some ridiculous activities and I just wanted to share that I am about to embark on probably one of the most challenging experiences of my life to date.
On July 12th 2017, I will begin a solo 4000000000 million mile Southbound hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, living in the wilderness and hiking from the Canadian border through to the Mexican border (4,279km/2,659 mi - in case you were comparing, that's like walking from Cairns to Adelaide via the entire East Australian coast highways). It will take approximately 5-6 months and during this time, I will no doubt be confronted with incredible new and unplanned experiences, some possibly involving bears and mountain lions (which I'm still coming to terms with 🐻🐈😱⚰️). At a record level snow year, things are bound to get insane out there, but hopefully by the time I reach the Mexican border, I will still be standing (JUST!) and able to announce that I CONQUERED THE PCT. I'm hoping to have data reception every now and then along the trail, so I will do my best to update via social media. With only 9 days until I hit the trail, I am deep in the planning, survival and mountaineering training for this hike and to say I am incredibly excited about this chapter of my life, would be an understatement. LOOK OUT PCT 2017 - Here I come!!! 🌎🏔🏜🏕⛏ #pct #pct2017 #pctsobo #pctsobo2017 #hiking #wilderness #newjourney #health #recovery #lifesabouttogetgood
