The Consulate General of Greece in New York kindly invites you to the first iteration of the Carte Blanche Project featuring Georgia Lale with the work “Neighborhood Guilt”.
This project is presented with major support from The Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce.
This exhibition addresses the phenomena of femicide and domestic violence. The artwork is created out of bed sheets donated by women that live in Greece. Those women have seemingly few things in common but they have all laid down on those bed sheets desperate and scared.
Home is not a shelter for people that live in an abusive environment. To the contrary, this is where they are most vulnerable, lonely and exposed. The majority of victims of femicide are murdered in their houses and on their beds. Their lives end on the bed that they make every morning. Their bed sheets soak up their blood. Similar bed sheets with those that soak up our tears, that soak up our dreams.
Carte Blanche Project is a pilot artist showcase program conceived and presented by the Consulate General of Greece in NY in collaboration with the advisory arts committee comprised of Eirini Linardaki, Natasha Katerinopoulos, Lolita Koutoudi, and Panos Tsagaris. This program is made possible with major support provided by the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce.
The project aims to showcase the work of artists from Greece who live and/or work in New York. This is the first step of a developing initiative to boost their representation and presence in NYC by having bi-monthly art exhibitions hosted at the Consulate General of Greece in NYC.
Moreover, to recognize the plethora of Greek arts professionals in NYC, the arts committee will rotate annually for the various diverse voices of the community to be demonstrated and experienced by local audiences.
