Welcome back students! On this second day of Winter Term, get to know Neha '23. What are you most passionate about? Right now, I am passionate about journalism, public health and policy, and the environment. What made you want to come to Deerfield Academy? The first thing that stood out to me was Deerfield’s small community and its traditions. There was a warmth at Deerfield that made me want to go here compared to the other schools. I also really liked the way Deerfield was so well-rounded. Tell me about your friends and how you met? Well, I made my closest friend during our ninth-grade trip to Camp Becket (where we bonded over our shared dislike for the camp itself), and I made my other really good friends just by living in Johnson-Doubleday. Sometimes you walk back to the dorms or to meals—since we all live in the same dorm freshman year—with someone you never thought you’d even talk to, and just like that: you’ve made a new friend. Also, sports and co-currics are another way I’ve made some of my closest friends, along with sit-down meals, because you interact with people from different grades that you wouldn’t have otherwise. What is it like to live on your own? Living on your own at Deerfield simply means you must manage your own responsibilities, like making sure you’re getting your work done on time, waking up at proper times, making sure that you’re eating meals, and even doing laundry, making your bed, and packing for breaks. Living on your own is not something that ends up being a culture shock; you just ease into it. What is the most "Deerfield" thing you have done? On Head of School Day my sophomore year, I did homework until the wifi shut off, hiked to the Rock in the morning with my friends to watch the sunrise, ran the small loop in the afternoon, wrote a paper and an outline for a Scroll article after lunch, and planned to go to the River later that evening, but got too lazy, so I just had a picnic with my friends on the lower fields. I think that’s a very Deerfield-type way to spend a Head
