IN SEARCH OF HADES
The auditions were fascinating. One of the things that help me design a character is to do a caricature of the voice talent and then incorporate some of those facial qualities into the final design. So, I brought along a pad of paper and doodled during the sessions. My only regret is that I didn’t write down the actor’s names. I didn’t recognize a lot of them except for Michael Ironside (lower right hand corner). His audition was memorable in the fact t...hat he was very self-deprecating. It was basically, “Well, thanks for considering me. Sorry I didn’t do a better job. I really wasn’t very good”…etc. The fact was, we really didn’t know what we wanted for the character. We were kind of grasping at straws. A lot of other actors came in and read for the part including Terrence Mann (center top) and Martin Landau (not pictured). John and Ron even went to New York to meet with Jerry Lewis (Inspired by his performance from “King of Comedy”).
