Increasing operational demand on the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has meant that a difficult decision needed to be made in relation to the ongoing day to day functions of the New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF).
The current Covid19 situation in New Zealand sees the NZDF preparing its assets to support New Zealand’s health and wellbeing, should it be necessary.
As a result, the NZDF simply cannot continue to support the NZCF in a way that has occurred historically.
These are difficult times for a lot of people and we are no exception.
Therefore, With Effect From (WEF) 2359hrs on 22 March 2020, there will be an operational pause to ALL NZCF ACTIVITIES, this includes weekly parades and the upcoming JNCO and SNCO courses. At this stage, the National Aviation Power and Navigation courses are postponed until later this year.
This pause in activities will be reviewed on 01 May 2020, when another announcement can be expected.
The NZCF must be responsible and do its part in support of the current Covid19 situation. We would rather provide certainty early than continue with a vacuum.
We understand that this decision will be a disappointment to some personnel, however, it has become clear to us at a national level that disruptions to our normal operations were gathering pace on an hourly basis, and it was very important to consider the impact of those alongside the advice around Covid19 from the Ministry of Health in order to protect the NZCF and New Zealand.
