As part of this year’s Miss World New Zealand, contestants have started to fundraise for Brave, the Beauty With A Purpose project which came joint second at Miss World 2018.
Miss World Oceania 2018, Jessica Tyson from New Zealand, started Brave in 2018 which works to raise awareness about sexual violence and helps young people in New Zealand who may be affected.
Tyson said: “I’m so grateful to have the support from the directors and contestants to continue sharing our messa...ge and help thousands of young people in New Zealand. Funds raised from our contestants will go towards projects within Brave, including school visits and self-defence classes.
“This year we have a goal of visiting all regions on the North Island of New Zealand to educate students.”
During each school visit, Tyson delivers a one hour, education presentation teaching senior students about what sexual harm and violence is, healthy relationships and consent and how to find help from support services.
She also talks about her own experience overcoming being a victim of sexual abuse and how counselling helped her heal from the experience to live a happy, successful life.
Tyson continued: “Since sharing my experience to thousands of students last year, I’ve had so many young people and other victims come up to me to say thank you. Knowing that we’ve been able to help others is so rewarding. I can’t wait to continue our work.”
The Miss World New Zealand 2019 contestants and Miss World Oceania 2018, will be working from February until May on charity events to fundraise for Brave.
The contestant who makes the most significant contribution will win the Miss World New Zealand Beauty With A Purpose at the final show on May 26.
