After years of being embraced by a generation of teens that side-stepped lowriding and proving their worth and noteriety on the custom street scene of Los Angeles, by 1984 Cal-Style VWs would go on to be recognized and added as a special category to the L.A. Super Show. Rene Ruelas who's family name was also iconic in the Lowrider and custom car world was instrumental in finally having a special category added to one of L.A.s major car shows as he saw a need for this style of lowrider influenced VW to be included which is what he had been building since the late 70s. Today the style that is known as Resto-Cal, Resto-Custom or Resto-Style is none other than an L.A. Cal-Style VW and The Cal-Style Newsletter will be re-introducing the class at its own shows and others around the country and the world in the very near future.
