SAS started hovercraft services between Malmö and Copenhagen Airport using two 86-seat hovercraft. The boats wore SAS-logo and viking-names, and had uniformed SAS-crew. The crossing took 35 minutes, and the hovercraft were operated on the route until July 1994, when they were replaced by catamaran boats. The original two hovercraft were named Liv Viking and Freja Viking, and third hovercraft, named Idun Viing, was added in 1989
